Tourniquet PULS, WILD US
The PULS tourniquet offers a different approach to the concept of tactical first aid and the control of massive limb haemorrhage. It completely departs from the traditional system with a rotating handle (as seen in C.A.T. or SOFTT tourniquets) and replaces it with a unique, patented lever mechanism. This design simplifies the entire application procedure to three basic steps, significantly reduces the risk of error under stress, and enables bleeding to be stopped in record time.
The main component of the tourniquet is a lever made of glass-fibre-reinforced plastic. After applying and securely tightening the main strap around the limb, the shooter or first-aider flips the lever to shorten the internal tightening strap. This immediately creates the necessary constriction pressure. The mechanism is designed so that, once the lever is flipped, the pressure remains in place and there is no risk of it releasing spontaneously, even if the lever is not further manipulated. The securing process is completed by attaching the lever to the main strap. A major advantage of the design is the ability to apply the tourniquet fully with one hand in a self-help situation, as well as the option for a qualified paramedic to release or re-tighten the pressure in a controlled manner.
The high effectiveness of the PULS tourniquet is underpinned by thorough laboratory testing at the Institute for Testing and Certification (ITC). During testing, it achieved a maximum pressure of 539.1 mmHg, with full inflation reached in 11.42 seconds; during a four-hour test, a negligible pressure drop of just 0.8 mmHg was recorded. Its functionality has also been verified directly on human limbs.
Weighing just 70 g, it is an exceptionally light and compact tourniquet that places no burden on a shooting vest, belt or personal IFAK. The combination of a durable polyester strap with a polyamide cover and a reinforced frame ensures reliability across a temperature range from −30 °C to +80 °C, as well as resistance to water and adverse weather conditions. The mechanism features a dedicated field for clearly recording the time of application.
