Josef Šmejkal, known by the nickname "Goliath," was a Czech wrestler and strongman who lived at the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries. Born in 1878 in the village of Dřevíkov near Hlinsko, he became famous for his extraordinary physical strength. His impressive power and massive physique earned him the nickname "Goliath."
According to legend, this strongman could lift a horse on his back, wrestle the renowned Czech wrestler Frištenský to the ground, easily bend metal bars, and break chains with his bare hands.
