The American company SureFire (formerly Laser Products) was founded in 1969 by Dr. John Matthews of the Caltech. The company originally specialized in laser technology. Matthews was not only a talented physicist, but also an enthusiastic shooter. And it was his passion for shooting that led him to the revolutionary idea of designing a laser sight, which he patented in 1979. In 1984, Matthews laser sights weretested for the first time at SWAT units as part of the security of the Los Angeles Olympic Games. SureFire manufactures now a broad portfolio of tactical and military hand-operated flashlights, as well as laser sight lamps for long and short arms for both civilian and professional use.
