The holster is padded to protect the weapon from possible impacts and thanks to the external pockets you won't have to worry about scratching it on loose magazines. The three aforementioned smaller pockets are used to hold magazines and one larger pocket can hold things like cleaning kit, boxed ammo, or other accessories.
