THERMO SHIRT - 2. LAYER ECWCS, MFH
This thermal shirt is designed to be used as the second layer of the ECWCS system(Extra Cold Weather Clothing System).
The first layer is usually some kind of thin thermo polyester that wicks sweat well. This is then followed by a war mer thermal undercloathing, the so-called second layer, which is already more warm and further transfers moisture away from the skin. Various fleece materials are then used as a third layer. Of course, it is not always necessary to add more layers - often two layers of thermal underwear are already sufficient.
The ECWCS was developed for the US Army to enable its soldiers to function and fight in adverse weather conditions. The complete equipment allows it to function in temperatures as low as -51 °C. Although you may not be planning to get to those temperatures, it's always good to be backed by a high quality equipment of the ECWCS kind.
